Turkey may become a reliable gas transit partner of Russia, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said after Friday negotiations with Turkish Energy Minister Hilmi Guler.

“The negotiations gave us a chance of detailed consideration of Russian gas transit through Turkey to Greece and Italy and, possibly, to Israel and Lebanon,” he said.

Russian and Turkish experts will continue discussions in the near future, he said. “These contacts will make energy relations between Russia and Turkey even more specific,” he said.

Miller confirmed the Gazprom interest in investments in the Turkish energy industry. “Gazprom wishes to invest in the construction of underground gas storage facilities and gas distribution networks,” he said.

Gazprom has always done its best to meet contractual terms, Miller said. “Despite the January difficulties, we maximum enlarged the supplies through the Blue Stream gas pipeline and Ukraine. Russia is not responsible for Ukraine’s taking some of the gas. All in all, Ukraine illegally took 550 million cubic meters of Russian gas,” Miller said.
