Turkish Prime Minister Reccep Tayyip Erdogan was rushed to hospital Tuesday morning but doctors said he was merely suffering from low blood sugar levels and there was no risk to his life. Erdogan was travelling to parliament to address party colleagues when his motorcade was diverted to a nearby hospital. The prime minister was apparently unable to unlock his car door when he arrived at the hospital and bodyguards were forced to smash a window in order to get him out of the vehicle. Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul told reporters that the cause of the low blood sugar levels was Erdogan's heavy work schedule. Medical experts told NTV television that the fact that the prime minister was fasting during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan would also have contributed to the Erdogan's condition. Erdogan was finally released after being kept in hospital for observation for around nine hours. All official activities for the prime minister on Wednesday were cancelled, the Anadolu news agency reported. The prime minister looked extremely tired as he left the hospital merely saying 'Thank you' to crowds on the street before leaving for his official residence.
