Turkey successfully hosted another international organization of paramount importance for the country. An audience of thousands, local and international, gathered in Istanbul on Sunday for the country’s second Formula-1. An audience of two billion from 203 different countries watched the race live on television, and Istanbul Park attracted a turnout of 80,000 spectators. An announcement made before the race placed the total number of spectators during the last three day event at around 135,000. The live broadcast of the Formula-1 race on hundreds of satellite television channels around the world made a valuable contribution toward promoting Turkey. The traffic congestion that caused huge problems last year was relieved this year with better organization and new 10,000-capacity car parks. The tight security surrounding this year’s organization received international acclaim, with the only common complaint being the unbearable heat. “I have worked in as many as 40 organizations; this one is fantastic,” said Antonio Bene, former Italian industrial director of Ferrari. Lack of experience was the only problem facing last year’s organization of the Formula-1 racing at Istanbul Park. Last year, long traffic jams were a major obstacle in accessing Istanbul Park. This year, access to the Istanbul Park was easier as the flow of traffic began early in the morning.
