The Turkish national basketball team has suffered its first defeat in the 15th World Basketball Championship held in Japan against Greece on Thursday.
Turkey lost 76-69 in the match which decided the top spot in Group C. Today's defeat means that Turkey finish the group in second place and are now paired with Slovenia, which completed Group D in third place. The defending European champions Greece as winners of Group C have been matched up with Puerto Rico in the second round.
Serkan Erdogan of Turkey was the top scorer of either side in today's game with 30 points. However, his huge effort was not enough for a perfect run of 5 successive wins.
Turkey had won all its four matches in the current competition prior to today's game. Turkey had defeated Lithuania, Australia, Brazil and Qatar respectively in their group to book a place in the second round.
